Clock Tower Bell

Molières

Description

Bronze watchtower once located at the top of the Clock Tower. A Latin inscription all around the bell remains to be deciphered.

Placed on the heights of the village (in the northwest), a brick tower is probably the last witness to the presence of fortifications in Molières. It collapsed at the end of the 20th century (after 1987) but still remains very present in memories as well as on the postcards which have abundantly illustrated it. Although it is likely that it had medieval bases, most of the building appeared to be a reconstruction of the early 17th century as suggested by the date « 1605 » on a stone above the door. entrance as well as the stylistic characteristics of the chamfered openings.

For a long time, it was called the “Tower of the English”: during the Hundred Years War it allowed the ancients to monitor the horizons.
